I was thinking about this past month while I was at work this afternoon. I realized that I have been in the middle of a whirlwind of activity. It must have been a good whirlwind though. I didn’t notice that I was really that busy.
As I have already mentioned, Ned was here from the 20th of June to the 29th. I had a couple of days after he left to recuperate. Catch up on sleep that kind of thing. Then on the 2nd of July my boss, Karen, went on vacation until the 12th. I was in charge of all of her mortgage business while she was gone. That was not a pleasant experience. Absolutely crazy.
I was also house-sitting for her and watching Kaleb, my 80-pound pillow while I stay at Karen’s. In the middle of that was also 4th of July weekend and the fiasco that was my Grandfather’s birthday present to himself.
The 4th was my Grandpa’s birthday. He bought himself a new metal 10’x 8’ shed. We were going to put it up for him. Dad and I arrived at 7 am Friday morning to get started. My cousin Scott came at 10 and my sister Stacy arrived at 11 with my Mom to help. What we didn’t realize was that the ground had to be perfectly level for the frame of the floor or there was no way the shed would go up. None of the screw holes would line up.
I think around 11 we discovered my Aunt Linda had a pile of gravel next door, we used that to create a level surface for the shed to sit on. 30 wheelbarrows of gravel later we had our level surface. Yes, I got a workout that day. At 3 we were still working on the shed. The floor was done, and the corners were up…that was it. It was then that I mutinied. I had been there since 7 and it was a really hot day. We promised to come back Sunday, cleaned up and got out of there.
Dad, Stacy, and I arrived on Sunday 7 am to finish our project. My other two sisters were conveniently at work and out of town that weekend. Lucky Ducks. We worked to 2 and then quite again. This shed is still not done. We did get the walls and the roof up, but we hit a major snag. Still trying to find time to finish the shed.
I worked all the next week doing two jobs, Karen’s and mine. The 12th was my mother’s 50th birthday. She wanted to go to Buffalo for the weekend and visit Niagara Falls. She wanted a mini-family vacation. So I skipped out early on Friday afternoon to drive up with my sisters. Mom, Dad, Wendy, and my nephew Robbie left Friday morning. It was a great weekend. We really had a lot of fun.
This weekend was supposed to be shed weekend, my dad and me, but he had an emergency today and had to fly to New Orleans. Wahoo! I think I actually get to relax this weekend. Next weekend the racetrack opens in Saratoga for the six-week season. Friday we are going to the races, then off to the Renaissance Faire in Sterling. That is 3 maybe 4 hours away, so we will be staying Saturday night.
I wanted a really busy, full summer this year, and it looks like I got my wish. I am having a ball.
